For its exemplary record of leadership, service and efforts to improve the school and community, the National Honor Society (NHS) awarded the Redwater ISD National Honor Society chapter the Excellence of Service Award under the leadership of president Samantha Stacy during the 2024-25 school year. NHS is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), which also oversees the National Association of Student Councils.
The Redwater High School National Honor Society has been recognized with an award for outstanding service, honoring their commitment to giving back to the community. Last year, members raised $1,000 in partnership with First Baptist Church, Redwater, to provide food and utility support for local families in need. Beyond fundraising, students dedicate countless hours to service projects such as ringing bells for the Salvation Army, maintaining Highway 67 through Adopt-A-Highway, providing water and encouragement at the Run the Line Marathon, and cleaning the football stadium after every home game. They also invest in younger Dragons by reading to elementary students, and extend their outreach by volunteering at events like Straight Street’s Chili Cookoff and Red Lick’s Fall Festival. Through these efforts, the chapter has made a lasting impact on the Redwater community and beyond.
"The NHS Chapter Pillar Awards celebrate chapters that truly embody what the National Honor Society stands for—students who don't just excel academically but actively strengthen their communities," said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. "The Redwater ISD chapter demonstrates how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents toward meaningful service and positive change."
The NHS Chapter Pillar Awards are prestigious recognitions to celebrate the outstanding achievements of NHS chapters across the country. In addition to basic requirements, the chapters must have demonstrated successful activities that exemplify one or all of the core values of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service and character.
