This course is a comprehensive study of the American free enterprise economy. It includes the study of the basic concepts of economics, the market system, the American business system, labor unions, money and banking, business cycles, consumer skills, the role government plays in free enterprise, and comparative economic systems. Emphasis is placed upon economic decision-making and personal development strategies. 


1st nine weeks - Chapters 1-9

2nd nine weeks - Chapters 10-19


Grading policy – There will be at least 18 daily grades and 3 test grades per nine weeks. Additional quizzes are also to be expected and can be used for either daily or test grades. 

Daily grades will count for 50% and test grades 50%. There may also be a research paper required each nine weeks that would be an additional test grade. Students will keep a class folder that will be an additional grade. Retake of test or redo of assignments follow RISD grading guidelines.  Work that is to be made up for absences is 1 day per each day that the student is absent. 


Conference times – 9:42-10:29 & 2:58-3:45


Tutorial times – Dragon time and by appointment. 


Supplies needed – Pen/Pencil, paper, and a folder to keep study guides, handouts, etc.

The Finance Career Cluster focuses on planning, services for financial and investment planning, banking, insurance, and business financial management. Students will investigate money management from a personal financial perspective. Students will apply critical-thinking skills to analyze financial options based on current and projected economic factors. Students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to establish short-term and long-term financial goals. Students will examine various methods of achieving short-term and long-term financial goals through various methods such as investing, tax planning, asset allocation, risk management, retirement planning, and estate planning.
